Eat Better
Food that is good for you doesn’t usually taste good.
Food that tastes good isn’t usually good for you.
When you eat out and think the food is tasty, it’s probably not that healthy for you.
If you have a choice, always go for the healthier option.
Avoid the ultra-processed foods. The ones that are super sodium-heavy or very fatty.
But they taste really good.
It’s hard. I know.
But like I said, if you want to eat healthier, try to go for the healthier option.
A side of mashed potatoes is probably better than a side of fries.
A side of salad is probably better than a side of mashed potatoes.
A piece of grilled chicken is probably better than a piece of fried chicken.
I have been training myself to become used to food that is less salty or less sweet.
I try to cook food at home so I know what I put in it. And how clean it is. Also, because it is the cheaper option. The downside? It definitely takes a lot of time and work. I need to spend time to plan what I want to make and what ingredients to get. I need to spend time going grocery shopping, travelling to and back. With a vehicle, not too bad, but not too good with public transit. Sometimes things aren’t where I think they are at the store, so I need to spend time searching for them. Time to prep. Time to cook. Time to clean. And if I end up making too much, I need fridge space to store them. And the part I probably dislike the most is where I make way too much food that I end up eating the same food basically every meal, for several days later. But that is what meal plan is for. Which is honestly what I need to work on still.
I think it’s good to start with learning how to make your own food, like the dishes that you like to get when you go outside. Look up recipes online on how to make them. Try them Once you have an idea of what ingredients are in them, you can choose to put less of the less healthy ones, like less of the saltiness or less of the sweetness. And if you’re really serious about eating healthier, you’ll eventually find healthier substitutes or have just simply less of something or eliminate it completely.
Create your own versions of the dishes you like.
